Martha Stewart's 2014 Halloween Issue Cancelled

According the incredibly resourceful Martha Moments blog, there was a planned 2014 Halloween issue of the venerable Martha Stewart Living magazine. Unfortunately, it looks like those plans may have been scrapped, and hopefully, the new Halloween content will be folded into the October issue.

Business analysts have spouted that the Martha Stewart Living magazine is on track for disappearing over the next 1-2 years. Already the magazine is now only publishing 10 times a year, but some like the founder of the Martha Moments blog, Andrew Ritchie, have suggested that the magazine would likely step down to either 6 bi-monthly issues a year or even a quarterly issue, rather than disappearing entirely. Without a strong TV presence and the numerous legal imbroglio, the Martha brand may be in jeopardy but ardent fans will continue to support her. It's a shame – no one else does Halloween quite like Martha!
The special Halloween issues have become collector's items and are almost impossible to find.
You can download a couple of these issues through the Martha Stewart Living and Zinio.com apps for iPad.

    1. It is a shame but at least some of the content will be available in the October issue. Martha paved the way for upscale, sophisticated Halloween decor, and many other retailers (ahem, Pottery Barn, Grandin Road, etc.) have benefitted from her unprecedented approach to Halloween. I only hope that this will never be forgotten if the magazine does disappear entirely.

    2. I credit her for the reason that my house decor is so stylish... mainstream middle income folks didn't care about Halloween so much until her. Now I can buy Pottery Barn, Crate & Barrel, even Williams-Sonoma Halloween items and have quality Halloween products. BIG SIGH! Plus, I loved the ridiculous finger foods shaped like coffins and, er, fingers in her Halloween issue. Thanks for posting this. I was stalking the shelves of the bookstore the other day.

  2. This makes me very sad. Martha is the Halloween Goddess. I still have many of her past Halloween Issues. They surely will be missed as were her halloween shows.

    1. The first publication was the Halloween book published in 2001. There were special issues in 2004, 2007, 2009, 2010, 2011, and 2013. The abandoned standalone 2014 Halloween issue was folded into the October issue of Living, although the content was slim. Since Living is now being distributed by another vendor, the chance seems slim that they will put any money into any more special issues. Maybe in a few years she'll collect everything into a new book.
